DPI, short for Dots per Inch, is a key unit of measurement for determining print resolution in printing processes. It indicates how many dots are placed within one linear inch (equivalent to 2.54 centimetres) on a printed surface. A higher DPI value means a greater number of dots per inch, resulting in a finer, more detailed and clearer rendering of images or text.
Print resolution is a crucial factor that affects the quality of a printed image. A higher DPI means more dots are placed within a defined space. This allows for a more precise reproduction of subtle details, which makes edges appear sharper, colour gradients smoother, and images more vibrant overall.
In our webshop, DPI is an important factor in the quality of your print projects. For our small print runs using digital printing, we recommend a resolution of at least 145 dpi. For our industrial offset printing of newspapers, brochures and inserts from 2,000+ copies, we recommend a minimum resolution of 240 dpi.
